Egypt retrieves 16 ancient artifacts from America

 Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced the recovery of 16 artifacts from the United States of America, in a post through its official account on the “Facebook” website.

In the statement published on Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mustafa Waziri, indicated that the recovered artifacts were illegally smuggled outside the country, which was proven by investigations conducted in the United States in 3 different cases.

The recovered items include 6 artifacts from the Metropolitan Museum, which were confiscated by the US Attorney's Office in Manhattan, New York City, USA.

,  @TourismandAntiq/Facebook The pieces include one part of a wooden sarcophagus covered in a layer of colored plaster, showing the face of a woman, a limestone slab with hieroglyphic inscriptions, a bronze statue of a man kneeling, among others.

These artifacts are scheduled to be delivered to the Egyptian Consulate General in New York within the next few days.
