 At the beginning of this week, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority organized a promotional tour in India, with the participation of a high-level delegation headed by Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Authority, with the aim of promoting tourism and entertainment components, new projects and business opportunities in the Emirate of Sharjah, and promoting the attraction of tourists from all over India. .

The delegation headed by the authority included representatives of the most prominent tourism agencies from the government and private sectors, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Emirates Airlines, Air Arabia, and the Sharjah Airport Travel Agency (SATA), in addition to representatives of the Golden Sands Hotel in Sharjah, and the Sharjah National Hotels Company. and World Headquarters Travel Agency (Cosmo Travel).

The tour included 4 major Indian cities: Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai, and came in the wake of the launch of the second quarter 2022 report related to the tourism sector, which revealed that India ranked first in the list of exporting markets for tourists to Sharjah.



The roadshow kicked off in Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. Over the course of two days, a series of meetings were held with a group of representatives of the tourism sector and stakeholders, including managers of hotel establishments, travel and tour agents, tour operators, and representatives of airlines, with a remarkable media presence.

The tour included individual meetings and detailed presentations by representatives of Sharjah Tourism and Air Arabia, on the existing and future opportunities in the tourism and travel sector in the emirate, whether for business, investment or entertainment purposes, which attracted the interest of potential partners and opened new horizons for cooperation between the two sides.



With the end of its tour in Mumbai, the delegation moved to the Indian capital, New Delhi, to hold business meetings with the stakeholders in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. .

The promotional tour aims to enhance the flow of tourism for travelers from the Indian market coming to the emirate, in line with efforts to strengthen relations between the Emirate of Sharjah and Indian cities at various levels and in vital sectors that contribute to the growth of the country's national economy.



Sharjah Tourism and the participating parties in the tour seek to highlight the latest destinations and new projects in Sharjah by introducing them to tourists from India, such as “Sharjah Safari”, the largest safari park in the world outside the African continent, and “Khorfakkan Amphitheater”, and The Heart of Sharjah”, “Mleiha District”, and a group of resorts, hotels, heritage and contemporary beach projects dedicated to hospitality and entertainment, and many more, which ensure enjoying visiting the emirate with a new perspective and providing an exceptional integrated tourism experience for all, regardless of their interests and age groups.



Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, said: “India has always been one of the main important markets for the Emirate of Sharjah, so we sought to reach potential tourists and visitors from India through this promotional tour to double the chances of attracting larger numbers of them, and at the same time ( The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the United Arab Emirates and India) signed last February, and major trade fairs and conferences, will increase the chances of receiving more businessmen and investors, as we have witnessed a remarkable increase in their numbers since the beginning of this year.”

Al Midfa added: “The Emirate of Sharjah is located 3 to 5 hours away from most Indian cities, which makes it a close destination for a long vacation or a quick weekend, especially with the emirate hosting many family, cultural, entertainment and environmental destinations, along with natural places and activities. Adventures, marine and mountain sports and many more, and with the opening of more projects and destinations in the future, we expect a greater increase in the number of tourists from India.”

He explained that the Emirate of Sharjah has recently witnessed, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the launch of a variety of qualitative development projects, including distinctive, heritage and environmental tourism projects and destinations that will be a valuable addition to the total packages of experiences and activities to enrich the experience of tourists. And visitors as a strategic addition that will serve and support the various vital sectors in the emirate, and will redraw the future of the region and enhance Sharjah's position on the global tourism map.

Finally, the report of the second quarter of 2022, issued by the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority in Sharjah, indicates that hotel establishments in the emirate received more than 270,000 guests in the second quarter of this year, registering an increase of 4% compared to the same period last year, with Sharjah hotels received more than 30,000 guests from India in the second quarter, with a growth of 19% compared to the number of guests in the corresponding period of 2021, with guests from the Indian market making up 12.8% of the guests of hotel establishments in the Emirate of Sharjah.

With the easing of travel restrictions, especially since travelers who received all doses of the (Covid 19) vaccine do not have to take a nasal swab test, and with the availability of various flight options at competitive prices provided by airlines, travel from India to Sharjah has become faster and easier, as travelers can from India Direct flights to Sharjah, from several Indian cities.
